Hiking Adventure Leader

Are you interested in joining the BEST Pet Care Team in Portland?

This Team Member works alongside another Team Leader to pick up Pups from our client's preferred location and transport to a local trailhead for an On Leash Adventure, or to our private 40 acres of land for an Off Leash Adventure. We have a flexible schedule with both morning and afternoon hikes with Monday - Friday booking only.

We provide everything needed to run an Adventure including waste bags, leashes, water bowls, cool Surf’s Pup shirts and hats to wear while adventuring, and we provide a fleet of 4 company vans so no need to use your own car!

Pet First Aid and CPR Certification is provided upon hire.

We are looking for part-time hours initially, 2-3 days a week working both On and Off Leash Adventures with compensation starting at $18/hour + tips for the 60 day trial period. Ideally this Team Leader is someone interested in working with us on a long term basis as our small company continues to grow and additional compensation opportunities are offered after the 60 day trial period.

Job Responsibilities:

Safe transportation of dogs to and from client location to trailhead.
Familiar with all types of leashes, harness, gentle leaders, and other dog walking tools.
Ability to hike with multiple dogs on leash while encountering other animals on trails during on and off peak hours of recreation.
Ensuring all dogs have fresh water available at all times.
Pick up all pet waste and dispose of it properly.
Provide Adventure updates to clients via text with location photos and messages and communicate frequently with clients as needed.
Towel dry dogs and gently wipe paws at completion of the Adventure prior to returning home.

Job Requirements:

Prefer experience with dogs and direct dog care work or volunteer history.
Must be comfortable working in a Team environment and utilize good communication skills.
Must be comfortable working with all breeds of dogs, Surf’s Pup loves the pitties and we have a lot of them in our pack!
Understanding and working knowledge of positive reinforcement basic behavior training.
Must be trustworthy and reliable with excellent references.
Must be 21 years or older
Legally eligible to work in the United States
Must have current and valid US driver’s license with a clean driving record
Must agree to background check
Ability to hike 3-5 miles without difficulty
